DNA Percipitation

Posted: February 17, 2012 in Uncategorized

Today in Biology class, we extracted DNA from seeds of wheat germ. This experiment was made possible by taking ground wheat germs and mixing them with water to get them to dissolve, Then we added detergent to break up the phospholipid membranes in the cell and therefore opening up the DNA. Then we decanted the original water and wheat germ solution with Ethanol. This was so that we could the DNA would would be attracted to the negative ions in the Ethanol. This causes the DNA to float up and create a third layer that looks like a cotton ball in the test tube. It looked awesome we got some great pictures too.

Hey all,

This is our Prezi presentation on how different wavelengths of light affect the rate of Photosynthesis. We used the three primary colors, red, blue, and yellow and expose plants to these filtered lights and measure the amount of photosynthesis in each.
